Hoover Platinum Lightweight Bagged Upright with Canister (UH30010COM) (3/14/09)
Overall, this is a terrific vacuum. The person who will be happiest with this combination is the person who: (1) wants a lightweight vacuum, (2) has mostly carpet in their home, (3) has carpeted stairs, and (4) uses attachments.
I liked my old vacuum, so using the LBU has been an eye-opening experience for me: I didn't realize how much effort I was exerting with my old upright with attachments - not only heavier, but so much bending and stooping to change settings or get tools.
At 11 pounds, the LBU is 2 to 3 pounds heavier- but less expensive - than competing models. Bonuses: it has a longer cord and a stair cleaning handle.
Competing models -
Hoover LBU, 11 lbs list $300/retail $300 (includes canister), 6 yr warranty
Riccar RSL5; 8 lbs list $710/ retail $500 (without canister), 3 yr warranty
Oreck XL Gold: 9 lbs list $600/ retail $500 (includes canister), 5/10 warranty
Oreck XL Platinum: 9 lbs list $800/ retail $600 (includes canister), 10 yr warranty
All of these uprights (including the LBU) are similar to commercial models, but you don't get the same auto carpet height adjustment, lifetime belt, HEPA filtration, and warranty on commercial models.
The supplementary canister has a strap and a 25 food cord. I didn't like it the first time I tried it, but the second time I adjusted the strap to fit me (DUH!), and then I LOVED it! The canister carries the crevice and brush attachments on board, so switching is easy, and the wand is extendable. (I don't use the floor tool, because I use a stick vac on my hardwoods.)
ADDED ADVICE (9/9/09): I have been using my machine about 6 months. About a month ago, I noticed that my machine was no longer expelling fresh smelling air. I assumed that although the bag was not completely full (after 5 months, in a 2800 sq ft mostly carpeted house), the dust from my 15/16yo carpets had clogged it up and so I replaced it (not bad...5 months for one bag). After replacing the bag, it still didn't smell as good as at first. Not nasty, just dusty. Hmmm. So I took out the new bag, vacuumed out the interior of the bag area (carefully, so I wouldn't damage anything), removed the base of the machine and cleaned and vacuumed that out as well (an advantage to a separate canister).
(Edit 11/13/09) That seemed to pretty much solve it for me, but I asked about it when I called about the battery for my Hoover Platinum Collection Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum) (see review), and was told that if you live in a very humid climate (like the Gulf Coast), then a cloth bag machine can develop a funky smell - especially if stored in an unventilated area - which can be treated by putting the vaccuum out in the sunshine on a hot, dry day. I was told NOT to use carpet fresh or other powders or spray fresheners (like Febreeze) because the product might build up over time and clog up the outer cloth bag.(END OF ADDED ADVICE)
If you want details about specific features, read on:
PROS
FINGERTIP CONTROLS - Wonderful. Many models have this type of control now, and now that I have used it I wouldn't buy one that didn't have it.
HEPA SYSTEM - Remarkable. My old vacuum was a HEPA model with HEPA bags, but there is no comparison to this model. The air on this vacuum comes out smelling fabulous. I bought and returned a top rated Kenmore canister that had the exact same amazingly clean exhaust (turns out I don't like using a canister), so I think this is the new hallmark of quality vacuums.
AUTO CARPET HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT - Works beautifully. I used to have to stoop down to change the carpet height adjustment on different rugs, but the LBU self-adjustment really works - no problem pushing vacuum over even the thickest pile.
CORD PLACEMENT - Smart! It comes out the behind the top of the bag rather than the bottom. This means I have even more useable cord, because I don't have to hold part of the cord up to avoid running over it.
CLEANING ABILITY - VERY effective carpet cleaner, my 15 year-old carpets look & feel (to bare feet) remarkably cleaner, and even look & feel newer. Excellent at removing pet hair from carpet. The upright is 5.5 amps with direct air flow, like the Riccar & Oreck models listed. The canister is 7 amps. (The combined total is listed in the product description - very confusing. I suppose that Hoover thought consumers want a 12 amp machine, but amps are like gas mileage; if you get more suction for less amperage it's like getting better mileage. That's good, not bad. Plus you won't blow your fuses!)
EASILY MANEUVERABLE - One expects this of a lightweight model, and all the models I tried turned easily and so forth, but the Riccar & Orecks I tried had to be kicked or tipped up over the edge of an area rug placed onto another carpet. In my home I have area rugs in several rooms on top of the wall-to-wall carpeting, and the LBU moves seamlessly over the edges (even on my thickest area rug) without needing a kick or an extra hard push.
LIFETIME LED HEADLIGHT - Brilliant! (Literally!) It is brighter than any other light I have ever had on a vacuum, and is it actually aimed at the carpet! I think having the LEDs has allowed them to aim the light better than with a standard bulb. I am sure other LED equipped models are comparable, so look for this feature,
LIFETIME BELT - YES! I've replaced SO many belts over the years and I won't have to do THAT anymore, thank goodness.
STAIR-CLEANING HANDLE - Finally. It is comfortably shaped & works well. To use competitors' models on stairs, you have to hold them by the back tube, which I've tried, and it isn't nearly as easy as using the handle. However, see cons below.
CORD RELEASE - (6/9/09 edit) I thought it didn't have one until another Amazon customer posted a commment to me (see comments) that it most certainly does; then I tried it again and VOILA! it does. Because I couldn't figure it out before, I got into the habit of just winding up the 35' cord on my arm and plopping it into the top cord holder. The LBU doesn't threaten to tip over at all when I do this, so it works just great and saves me yet another bend and stoop - but it's a good feature to have, so I'm glad the engineers didn't leave it out.
CONS
STAIR-CLEANING HANDLE - Good grief! I assume it really WAS necessary to vent the motor exhaust toward the stair-cleaning handle (!), so rather than curse the engineers, hold the handle on the right-hand side. It's big enough to do that, thank goodness. Or vacuum the stairs first, before the motor gets warm.
NO BRUSH ROLL ON/OFF - Hmmm. This is in the description (and competitors' models are the same), so it means that the vacuum is intended ONLY for people with mostly carpet. I have about 80/20 carpet/bare floor, so it works for me. I use a stick vac on my hardwood, and the other person I talked to that has hardwood floors and this vacuum says she doesn't care because her hardwood floors aren't new anyway. But if you have brand-spankin'-new hardwood floors, will you really want to use a brush-roll on them?
EXPENSIVE BAGS - Really, $5 each? But they are huge, and they are the very high quality type with fabric-like paper, so we'll see. I used to have to change my old ones ($3) fairly often, so maybe this will work out the same or even cheaper.
CARRY-STRAP FOR CANISTER - Not padded. Anyone know where I can buy a pad for a 1 ½ inch strap?
This review is longer than I would like, but since there are so few reviews out there as yet, I wanted to be thorough. Sorry for the length but hope this helps!
(7/19/2009 edit) By the way, the original price on this was $400 and now it has dropped to under $300! This is a terrific value at this price! I would be furious if I hadn't gotten a 20% discount in the first place! |
Finally ... a Vacuum Cleaning System Worth the Money

First, a disclaimer of sorts .... I'm a long-term, died-in-the-wool Hoover evangelist. No, I don't work for Hoover, but I've always used them religiously for over 30 years. I've tried switching off to other top-of-the-line brands (Oreck, Eureka, Kenmore, etc.), but I always return to Hoover for their unsurpassed cleaning power and reliability.
That does not, however, mean they were perfect.
* The Hoover WindTunnel U6439 bagged upright that I've had for the last several years would suck up a Buick. Unfortunately, it also rivaled a Buick in the weight category. Although it's supposedly a "self-propelled" model, I felt like I had to go into training in order to vacuum my house. It became something I would put off because I wasn't sure I had the strength to wrestle this bulky beast all over my house.
* The WindTunnel controls which allow you to change the brush height from carpet to floor were manual, hard-to-move levers on the brush housing which required you to shut the machine off in order to properly manipulate them.
* The HEPA filter on my old WindTunnel seemed to work only for the first few months. After that, all manner of airborne particles would fly around as I vacuumed, even after I cleaned/replaced the filters.
* Lastly, noise of my previous WindTunnel was something akin to a jet taking off.
When I saw a TV commercial for the Hoover Platinum series machines, I was definitely intrigued. I loved the idea of getting two separate vacuums together for one price (brilliant marketing idea there, Hoover). But I was skeptical; could the power of a Hoover truly be housed in something that weighs only 11 pounds? I'd tried other lightweight vacuums in the past and their suction was dubious at best.
I made a beeline for the Internet to start researching. Over a couple of days of intensive reading (yes, I'm very thorough), I decided to continue my trust in Hoover and took the plunge. I bought the entire two-machine system online (eBay) for a total price of $379 (no tax and free shipping).
Both machines come packaged together in a single tall box which was waiting for me on my front porch when I got home from work. The first thing I noticed was that I could actually lift the entire box into the house without grunting like a Sumo wrestler... that was promising. After removing everything, I was stunned at the weight ... or lack thereof ... for both machines.
The physical appearance is very appealing; the upright is sleek and slim with a 35' long cord, and the canister has tools-on-board, along with an ingenious shoulder strap so you can "wear it" while you vacuum. You will be stunned by how little these machines weigh ... a child could easily lift them both. But could they clean?
When I fired up the Platinum upright, the word that kept coming out of my mouth was WOW. First off, no more jets taking off in my living room ... just a pleasing HUM. Second, this impossibly lightweight wonder gives a whole new meaning to the term self-propelled. It seemingly FLOATED over my carpeting all on its own, while still having the suck-up-a-Buick power I expected from a Hoover. It cleaned better in one pass than its older U6439 WindTunnel behemoth cousin did in several passes. I was picking up stuff I didn't even know was there. How about making a pass underneath your bed, or behind your dresser that you haven't moved since you moved in 15 years ago? It was astonishing how well this machine worked in just one pass.
I have a rather large, bulky throw rug in my kitchen that I had been preparing to replace because it had become so un-vacuum-able in recent weeks. The Platinum upright made it look brand new. And hallelujah for a TRUE edge cleaner! Everyone claims to have edge cleaning ability on their uprights, but this one truly delivers on the promise. Think about those sneaky areas in your house where all sorts of stuff lingers ... like that dead zone along the baseboards tucked up under the bottom of your kitchen cabinets where they meet the kitchen floor. This Platinum upright sucked up all that debris immediately ... right to the edge.
The maneuverability of the Platinum upright is astonishing. It truly is as light as Hoover claims and it moves as easily as a Dyson. The upright portion of the machine lowers completely parallel to the floor so it really can move under coffee tables with ease. It also moves from carpeting to floors effortlessly with an intelligent, lighted, fingertip control right up there on the handle.
The HEPA filtration is light-years ahead of my previous WindTunnel ... think HEPA with a Hemi under the hood. Yes, I know that bags are expensive, but you can find discounts if you search online and buy in bulk. Plus, I don't mind paying for a product that truly works ... these bags, and this new Platinum HEPA filtration system, truly work. No dust or other airborne nasties were visible anywhere.
The Platinum canister has a carrying strap, which makes so much sense. The maintenance crew who cleans my office building uses strap-on canister vacuums and I always thought that was such an intelligent design ... now, I've got my own. And all the tools are right there attached to the unit, ready and waiting for you. I toted that canister all over the house, cleaning window sills, ceiling corners, air conditioning vents, everything! Then I walked into the garage and started cleaning the inside of my SUV. It's quiet, powerful and incredibly portable ... the best "canister" I've ever used.
In my first test run of this Hoover Platinum "vacuum system," I found myself LOOKING for stuff to clean; I couldn't get enough of it. The Hoover UH30010COM Platinum is, quite simply, the best vacuum PERIOD I've ever owned. I absolutely LOVE this machine ... and to get 2 vacuums - an upright and a canister - for the same price just makes terrific economic sense. It has extraordinary power in a relatively quiet, sleek, lightweight package that doesn't leave me feeling deaf, sore and exhausted. Bravo, Hoover!
Run, don't walk, to get the Hoover UH30010COM Platinum vacuuming system ... you will not be disappointed.

This is the vacuum I have always dreamed of having! 100 Stars!

| I would truly give this vacuum 100 stars if I could. Do you know what it is like to receive something that exceeds your expectations 10-fold? This was not an impulsive or inexpensive purchase, but it was worth every cent to have everything I have wished I could have in a vacuum. I have had an Oreck for the last 7 years and knew I could never use a non-lightweight vac again. I was thinking I would "have to" buy another Oreck, then saw a commercial for this Hoover. After doing some research, I ordered one, never thinking it would be THIS good. It says it is a couple pounds heavier than an Oreck, but it feels lighter to me, and handles more easily. It is beautifully constructed, and has an exceptionally long cord. The handle is honestly comfortable to hold, and the vac easy to lift and use on stairs - especially with the special handles. But the AMAZING thing about this vac is it seems to propel itself effortlessly back and forth!!!! The Oreck was difficult to push on my dense, low carpets, but this machine feels like it does the work for you. The controls are conveniently placed, and the two speeds very useful. I have never been so excited over an appliance in my life. The portable canister & attachments it comes with are actaully pretty nice, too, although I didn't buy it for those. I will be telling everyone I know about this vacuum and highly recommend it. |
Best Vacuum I Have Ever Owned
|

I used the vacuum today on my floors and I swear I would not lie to you... this is the best vacuum I have ever personally used. There is nothing that has not been thought out about this vacuum and I want to highlight what I think are the best features about this vacuum.
* Weight- This vacuum is extremely lightweight for a standard upright vacuum. It is less than twelve pounds which makes it also one of the lightest vacuums I have ever used. Since our home is a tri-level, hauling a vacuum up and down the stairs can be a challenge so I appreciate this lighter design.
* Movement- This vacuum moves like a dream! Once you hit the power button, it easily pushes itself into motion. In fact, I feel like you have to exert more muscle power to move the vacuum backward rather than forward.
* Picking Up- Movement is great, but does it pick anything up? My kids left plenty under our kitchen table to clean up and it picked it all up within the first swipe. It even picked up Cheerios and larger food pieces without spitting it out behind it. Crafting had been done and we had glitter on our carpet and it picked the pieces of glitter up with no problem. Other vacuums spit things back out behind it, this one sucked it up and I never saw it again.
* Design- There is a small handle on the back of the vacuum to make cleaning the steps of your home much easier. You barely need to touch the power button and it begins. It has a high and low carpet function so you can use whichever setting depending on where you are operating the vacuum. On this model, the cleaner's check-bag indicator illuminates when the bag needs to be changed so your vacuum can preform at its optimal performance.
* Bagged Vacuum- I do not like the bagless vacuums at all. I have allergies and trying to get the vacuum cleaned out for the next use can stir up my allergies for the rest of the day. This vacuum does have a large bag, and the bags are an added expense, but I feel it is worth it in our family's case. The upright vacuum cleaner uses a dust bag with a HEPA filter, which traps 99.97 percent of dirt, dust, and pollens down to 0.3 microns for better indoor air quality. The quick-release, self-sealing bag prevents dirt puffs from escaping into the air as well.
* Smart Tools- To help keep this vacuum light, this comes with a separate machine that contains all of the tools you need to reach high and low in the corners of your home. This is one thing that I definitely feel was missing on the Halo UV Vacuum because you absolutely need these tools when you have children. This portable canister comes with a long wand that can extend to catch all of those corners in your ceilings and dust light fixtures. There is even a hardware floor tool that you can use, although I found the upright vacuum itself did an excellent job of sweeping the floors.
The only negative thing that I could even say about this is that this vacuum is definitely not inexpensive, but compared to the Dyson vacuums this is FAR more affordable. I also realize that there will be an expense with the vacuum bags. Both the portable canister and the upright vacuum require a bag so you will need to factor that in. With my allergies though and the way it contains the dust in our home, it is an expense I am willing to pay.
This is a fantastic product that has made cleaning...dare I say it? Well, maybe not fun, but it has made cleaning my home a lot easier and I look forward to using this often in my home! |
So much better than the bagless vacuums!

We have a 1800 sq ft. home with hardwood/lots of large oriental rugs, one 100+ lb. dog, and one cat. We have gone through three vacuum cleaners in the past 6 years. Two of those were the bagless vacuums, and we truly thought we were just picking the wrong brand of vacuum cleaner. However, after the final one breaking down we concluded that we had to go back to the bag version. We reviewed the Orac and other well known brands, but in the end found that for the price and additional add ons the Hoover was the best buy. We received the vacuum (with the attachment canister) and to say we LOVE it is an understatement! It cleans SOOOOO much better than the bagless versions (no extra dirt and dust blowing out as you clean). Here are the plus points of this vacuum:
1. Lightweight -- I am pregnant and love the fact that this is a very lightweight vacuum! All of the other brands we reviewed (including the Orec) were so much heavier.
2. Long Cord -- We can clean our large great room without unplugging and re-plugging that vacuum.
3. Pick Up -- This vacuum sucks EVERYTHING up! Just be careful on lightweight throw rugs.
4. Makes you feel like a cleaning queen -- I LOVE vacuuming with this machine...I have even found I vacuum just for fun since it works so well and it gives the house a quick clean look (my husband does not have this "cleaning queen" sentiment for the record).
5. All the local small appliance vendors work on Hoover -- In this economy we really wanted an investement that we could have repaired if we needed. Versus having to make a new purchase.
6. Easy cleaning -- You simply remove the bag and replace with a new one (and this bag is HUGE). Whereas with the bagless versions we were taking it apart and trying to clean it out by hand (very messy), and dirt/dust always leaked out onto the floor and everywhere. It was very cumbersome!
7. Attachement Canister -- We really like the canister attachment. It makes so much more sense to have the attachments separate from the vacuum cleaner. With the animals in the house we love being able to quickly suck up the many little dust bunnies with ease!
Overall we would highly recommend this product! We are glad we did the research and we truly feel this product is well worth the money.

The best vacuum collection on the market!!!

I first want to comment on some negative reviews I saw.
1. "Where can you wrap the cord on the canister?"
WHy not try the black lip on both ends of the canister as it was made to wrap the cord around the bottom of the canister.
2. "The attachments keep falling off the holder on the canister."
It has been over 2 weeks now and mine haven't. Maybe you are not securing them properly.
3. "The canister is so ear piercing loud."
Ah, I don't feel it is. But maybe I haven't stuck it to the side of my head either. LOL
4. "The canister vac bag is so small it filled instantly."
I have 2 basset hounds that even after a brushing still shed and I use my canister vac at least 3 times a week and the filled light has yet to come on. The bag in the upright is huge so it will take a long time to fill and yes you only get 2 in a box for over $9 and 2 in a box of the canister ones for $3 but they do last and the vacuum is worth it.
5. "I have to run back and forth between the two, to use the attachments."
Ah.... Why? Just vacuum with the upright and then use the canister to do your touch ups.
6. "It's fine if you don't mind a 1.5" shoulder strap digging into your shoulder."
WHAT?? It has a pad and it is light. What is wrong with you?
I have Osteoarthritis and Fibromyalgia and this was the best buy I ever made.
It is so light and easy to use.
No bending except to vacuum under my sofa, which this is the only canister vac I have ever been able to do with.
I don't dread vacuuming any more.
It is sleek and looks really nice. They don't take up much room.
I wrap the cord around the canister vacuum and attach two of the attachments and then attach the end of the hose in the middle spot and it stores neatly in my closet next to its mate.
I have no regrets at all!!!!!!!!! |
Excellent for pet hair!

I purchased this 2 weeks ago, so I haven't had it for long but I am very impressed with it so far. I have a dog and 2 cats, so getting all the pet hair is usually impossible. Not so with this vacuum!!! It has bristles on the edges that clean pet hair out of the baseboard corners perfectly, so I don't need to break out the attachments. Plus, the sides of the vacuum don't scuff my white trim like other vacuums have.
The suction is exceptional. It leaves NO pet hair behind! I've even tested the vacuumed carpet with a pet hair tape roller and come up with nothing. It leaves NO REMAINING HAIR in the berber carpet! Even when I get down and eyeball the carpet to see if there's any hair left, it's clean! It gets ALL of the hair.
I love that the attachments are on a separate unit...it makes it very easy to vacuum the hair off the couch and steps. Some people see this as a disadvantage, but I completely disagree. I think it's great. The suction on the attachment unit is also excellent. It is without a doubt the best suction I have ever seen on attachments. |

| I never bought a vacuum for more then $100.00 before. Recently I just got new carpeting for my whole house and after paying a higher price for the best carpet. When I got this in just 3 day one screw it's ready to run. Wow is all I gotta say about the proformace just amazed me how better a vacuum hoover made. Finally for all younce a 6 year warranty with this vacuum that includes parts and labor is over the top in customer service. So what are you waiting for just buy it. I bought this to replace my elderly Oreck. I was going to buy another Oreck but I saw the great reviews for the Hoover Platinum and decided to give it a try and save myself a couple of hundred dollars in the process.
One word for this vacuum: AWESOME. Quiet, easy and comfortable to use and since I have cats, I vacuum 3-4 times a week. Vacuuming is a chore that I no longer dread. The edge cleaning feature works very well. It does so well, I haven't had to use the canister vac yet. Bag cost was not a factor in my purchase decision since they cost about the same as the Oreck bags, and there is the bonus of being able to nip down to my local Target to buy bags instead of the special trip to the vacuum store to pick up Oreck bags, belts, etc. Oh yeah, the lifetime belt, another awesome feature.

i absolutely love this vacuum. it is so light
yet it is the most powerful vacuum i have
ever had. the quality is incredible, i just
love it. now, the ONLY thing that some people
may not like is not having the onboard wand.
you do get an awesome canister vac included in
the box(it is really a super canister vac), but
i will admit sometimes when i am vacuming i go
to grab for the wand, but then i remember it's not
on this vacuum. i really want people to know, this vacuum
is really really nice, it is like pushing a feather. the headlight
is l.e.d. is super bright and lasts for ever. the cord is 40ft long.
hoover really put time and thinking into this vacuum!!! |

I have never spent more than maybe $50 on a vacuum cleaner in the past and have always found vacuuming to be a pointless chore; I ended up picking up after the vacuum anyway or finding them only to get the top crumbs on carpet, not the deep down dirt...assumed all vacuum cleaners were like this and saw no point in paying more for the same piece of junk.
And having moved from a home with a central vac (put up with that for 5 years...never again!!!!) I knew it was time to actually put some money into what I hoped would be a decent vacuum cleaner.
I read review after review on Amazon and thought this vacuum seemed to have the best overall reviews and I'd give it a try....Oh my goodness...I now, more than ever, realize how horrible all those other vacuums were and how much money I wasted over the years. This is the most wonderful vacuum I have EVER used, lightweight and so (relatively, as much as a dirt sucker-upper can be) quiet. And you absolutely do get two machines for the price of one. Instead of lugging one vacuum up and down the steps with 400 attachments to clean carpet and wood, I leave the upright upstairs where all the carpet is and the shoulder vacuum downstairs which is perfect for the vinyl and hardwood...though as light as they both are, it wouldn't be difficult to take them up and downstairs.
DEFINITELY WORTH THE MONEY! |
Hoover Platinum Bagged Better than Dyson DC25 All Floors
|
| Review Date: July 29, 2009 |
| Reviewer: Victor A. Ilnicki, Pittsburgh, Pa. |
| I recently purchased a Dyson DC25 ALL Floors.I was not satisfied. It picked up dirt, but didn't fluff the carpet. I like the carpet to look like it has been swept, which the Dyson didn't do. The Dyson suction didn't seem very good, at least not as good as the Hoover Platinum, and the Hoover Platnium fluffed the carpet beautifully. I still have both sweepers, but I am going to return the Dyson. The Consumer Reports reliability rating for Hoover products is lower that Dyson's, but the Hoover Platinum has a 6 year warranty, and the Dyson only has a 5 year warranty. So, I am going to take a chance on the Hoover Platinum. I bought the Hoover Platinum Bagged sweeper for $299.00 at Target this week. That is $100.00 off their regular price of $399.00. Just to see if the $100.00 reduction at Target was legitimate, I checked Walmart, and their price is $389.99. The Hoover Platinum comes with a separate canister vacuum, with attachemnts. It works fine. No attachments for the upright. Another thing I like about the Hoover is the weight, it is under 12 pounds, lighter than the Dyson by about 4 lbs. |

An excellent lightweight vacuum cleaner

| This is by far the best vacuum cleaner I've had in years. It is lightweight, but the suction is great. My other "expensive" vacuum never picked up the dirt as this one does. The canister vacuum that comes with it is also great. Does a great job on furniture and hard floors. Wish I had both of these vacuums for the last 4 years. |
The Best Vacuum

| This is probably the best vacuum I have ever bought. At first, it sounded loud, but then the noise went down and it sounds like a wind tunnel. It is light and looks like it is well made with good parts. The cannister is a lot better than the one from Oreck. I just thought it would have a better cord wrapping system. Also, the bag is bigger in this cannister. The only disappointment is that they don't send you any extra bags. I buy this kind of vacuum because I don't like seeing the dirt in the other brands. I wish the upright could be a little flatter to fit farther under the bed and chairs. Sometimes it seems like the vacuum moves by itself, like one I had years ago. |

This is the 4th hoover vacuum I've owned over the years and I have to say it is definitely the best product they've created. One of the main reasons other than needing a new house vacuum for my initial purchase was to get the bundled canister vac to clean the interior of my cars.
I'm a big fan of canister type vacs and this one didn't disappoint me. The canister is powerful, lightweight, and comes with a nice set of attachments and a telescoping extension.
The big surprise was how well the house vacuum works. It does a great job on our medium length carpets. It's very easy to push around, does a great job on filtering the dust, is quiet and is very well constructed. I'd give this vacuum combo set 10 stars if Hoover would reduce the price of the bags but even with the preium bag price I still have to give this product 5 stars.

| I couldn't be happier with the new Hoover Platinum lightweight vacuum cleaner. Before this I had a very heavy duty Royal to deal with dog hair, but it was killing my neck and back to push it and haul it around. The Hoover is so easy to handle, even on stairs. It practically glides over the carpet but has really good suction. I can't believe something this lightweight is strong enough to do such a great cleaning job, and it handles long dog hair just fine. I love how the height self-adjusts when going from carpet to tile. And the bag is huge! I don't like bagless vacuums because of the small capacity and mess, so even though these bags aren't cheap, you can go a long time before changing them. I vacuum once a week and after a month I still have 2/3 of a bag left to fill. I also really like the portable canister vacuum for the little jobs like cleaning off a pool table or electrostatic A/C filters, etc. |
Great machine

| We Love this Vacuum. The wife wanted a vacuum without all the attachments that get lost and in the way, so this seemed perfect. It does exactly what it claims, it is light weight, no funky adjustments or adjustments to make for height of carpet, picks up everything, no odor from the exhaust of the bag like our old vacuum. Has a bright light on it to see where you are going and under things nicely. It feels like its self powered because it pulls it's self right along effortlessly. The small canister unit it comes with is perfect for all the corners and small spots, comes with a few attachments. Both units have nice long cords on them, would have been nice if it retracted into the canister vacuum. The handle on it telescopes nicely to get high and low areas effortlessly. I also purchased 4 boxes of bags for each unit and got a nice discount for the volume purchase. Had to make sure I got them from Amazon and not on outside vendor, to save on the shipping cost. The original price was cheaper from an outside vendor but, they nail you on the shipping, so do the math first. It took less than one minute to put the handle on, out of the box, and you're good to go. It's not a cheap vacuum and you get what you pay for. I also saw it for $399.99 + Tax at Target, same week I bought it from Amazon for $399.99 NO TAX + NO SHIPPING COST, so I was happy to wait 3 days for it to arrive. |
