Excellent vac: mostly pros, with few cons

We have four vacuum cleaners, and it's not because we're neat freaks. It's exactly the opposite. We keep hoping for the one vacuum that will clean our house with the least effort. Each succession of vacuum cleaner gets smaller and smaller, especially after we discovered we can pay our 5-year old 50 cents to clean the carpet. Between this and the Eureka "The Boss Superlite", they're our favorites. Here are some of the real pluses of the system, followed by the negatives:
PROS:
Great suction, especially on fine dust
Very lightweight, our kid (5 years old) can operate it
Retractable handle makes it easy to carry around (we're short people)
Retractable handle makes it easy to store
Inexpensive
CONS:
The HEPA filter attracts dust very quickly and needs to be cleaned each time (is this a plus or a minus?) Anyhow, it's a messy job.
The front face could be a fraction smaller to get under furniture better

Great Machine

This machine really sucks. :-) Balls of cat fur an inch ahead of the machine are pulled right in. The discharge of air ahead of the machine is an advantage; those onion skins and dust balls up against the baseboards that used to require a broom to loosen get blown out onto the floor and then sucked up into the machine. I have nothing but praise for this product.
See also multiple reviews for similar 431AXZ--the 437AZ costs $20 more, adds HEPA filter and $20 remarkable turbo powered brush for the hose. |
Perfect for Apartments!

I've got a fully carpeted, 2 bedroom apartment with no pets and I vacuum probably twice a month. I previously owned the Eureka 431BXZ (green model) before purchasing the 437AZ and I absolutely loved it. I had to buy this new vacuum because a neighbor of mine borrowed my previous one and has yet to return it. Needless to say, I'm extremely content with the 437AZ.
I've had the vacuum for 3 months now and just recently emptied the dust cannister and cleaned the filter. It's true that there is an extremely large amount of dust that collects around the filter but I've found it farely easy to clean. I disconnect the filter from the dust cannister and place it in a large garbage bag while brushing off the excess dust. It takes around 5 minutes and I don't imagine myself cleaning the filter more than 3-4 times a year. Obviously, people who have pets and live with more than 2 people in a space larger than a 2 bedroom apartment might find this vacuum unsuitable to their needs.
What I love most is the suction power and the extended hose option. I use the hose to clean hard to reach corners on floors, tight closet spaces, and the small crevices in my couch and sofa. The vacuum itself is pretty light weight and easy to store anywhere. It sounds too good to be true but I don't really have any substantial complaints about this unit. I've had no problems with it and I would definitely recommend this item to my friends. As a matter a fact, I'm planning on sending one to both my mother and my sister for Christmas. |
Best small vaccum cleaner

I looked wide and far for a small, light and poweful upright for our 36 foot Sea Ray express cruiser. Anyone with an RV or boat knows that storage space is at a premium, so the item has to be small and light to stow well.
This vac fit sthe bill perfectly for us. it is very powerful and very small, albeit not all that light. Since our Sea Ray has a Bean central Vac installe din tha cabin, we wanted a vac that has a powered brush to lift up all the small stuff that gets into marine carpeting in the cockpit and also have a detachable hose with a couple of tools to vacuum dashboard and other colsets in the cockpit.
This vac does it all well. It is just as powerful as a full size vac, has a rotating brush that can be turned off, a very flexible hose with three tools and stows in minimal spaces due to retractable handle and small size.
What we don't like: As mentinoed before the vac blows the air from the turbine ahead of the cleaner and with force so it can stir uo dust and stuff if you are not careful. I don't like bagless vacs period and this one is no difference. Always a mess to clean out and you eventually have to buy a new filter too at $12 for this one. But I can easily live with the shortcomings because this little rascal does the job and is small enough to stow well. Highly recommended!! |
Better than Dyson

| This vacuum is absolutely the best available ! For years & years we have tried and fried many many vacuum's (because of the abundant pet hair our dogs donate) . About two months ago , a family member offered this vacuum to us . Well ,regardless of being a little leary because of its size and thaught perhaps they were just ridding the closet of unwanted junk , we accepted the gift ! WOW ! the best gift we have ever received !This vacuum can suck the hair from off the dogs when they're on another floor ! ( Ok , so it seems ! ) I mean it , this thing is so wonderful I've recently bought another just in case (god forbid) anything would happen to this one . It is amazing what it picks up , even after a Dyson! The only downfall is its small canister, you do have to empty it quite often. Well , we do because of pet hair ! I , and anyone else who tries this vac would agree , It is WELL WORTH frequent emptying in trade for the pleasure of easy and thorough vacuuming of this wonderful vac . You will be absolutely satisfied with this purchase , especially if you have pet hair bunnies running around your home , like we did . Even on hard floors , this thing will suck the hair out from under furniture ! ok , I better quit rambling , BUY IT ! YOU WONT BE SORRY ! iTS LIGHT , EASIER TO USE THAN ANY VAC AND FITS UNDER LOW OBJECTS BECAUSE OF LOW PROFILE ok I'm done ! Thank you for reading my book ! LOL |

I have been using this vacuum on my hardwood floors for the past 3 months. And I have only good things to say. Awesome suction, cleans my floor like a pro, compact, lightweight, bagless, and priced just right.
My only gripe is that its noisy, but which vacs aren't. Happy customer....No regrets :) |

| I love the new Eureka. Have had many, many, many vacuums over the ages (I'm old) and this one is the best. It's light weight and powerful. The carpets look so much better. Loaned it to my son and he said the same thing. Great machine for the price. |
Love It

| Just brought this home, assembled it and WOW...! It's lightweight and I can't believe the dog hair this vacuum picked up. I am having to empty it frequently, but I think that once the floor has been done a couple of times, it won't be so bad. I didn't realize how much my older vacuum left behind :-0 |
Pretty, but useless, like my exwife

A GORGEOUS color, has a lot of great features builtin, but 2 major dealbreakers:
1) it runs for about 3 minutes, then overheats and will not run for another 3 minutes until an hour or 2 later. NOT an effective way to clean a 3,000 square foot house. the thermal protection feature builtin is far too sensitive and makes the entire contraption USELESS. Maybe it runs well in Alaska - who knows.
2) the cord is too short.
Did I mention though - it really is PRETTY? Unfortunately I also got blinded by that attribute last time I selected a wife and ignored all the other fatal flaws.
I'll never buy EUREKA or a smoking hot Norwegian again - back to DIRT DEVIL and bookish librarians for me.
UPDATE 6/23/2009:
I've changed my mind about this vac - I now rate it FIVE STARS, whereas originally I gave it one. I discovered that the problem mine had was due to the fact that stringy stuff had gotten snarled around the roller in the bottom. If you have problems with yours shutting down, make sure nothing is stuck in the base, in the hose, in the ROLLER especially, and clean the HEPA filter with a brush. When it is clean, this baby performs like a CHAMP! And, as I said before it is VERY PRETTY! Unfortunately, my rating of my exwife has NOT improved....

| This vacuum does what its much higher priced competitor's couldn't do for me! Cleaned my carpeting and hard wood floor with little effort, but great results! I had been using an expensive full size Hoover, that just wasn't cleaning like it should be. A friend recommended the Optima and I am so glad she did!! It cleans like my $300 vacuum never did, even when new and after having been taken to a repair shop to "tune" it up because it just wasnt sucking good-they couldn't find anything wrong with it either but agreed it wasn't operating the way it should and said that its a common problem. The attachment option is easy to use and has great suction too. With my Hoover, the attachments always seemed to only work at 1/2 power. This is easy for the kids and DH to use too. I would recommend the Eureka Optima Lightweight 437AZ hands down. I could buy a new one every year for the less that the price of the Hoover, because thats about how long it lasted! Barely 3 years and its cleaning was poor most of the time. I've only had the Eureka Optima for a couple of months, but so far its the best vacuum I've ever used! |
Great Buy - Great Vacuum

| I bought this vacuum after using one at a friend's home and I love it! It is small and lightweight but very powerful. I am constantly amazed at the amount of dirt and dog hair this vacuum picks up. I have used other vacuums that cost a lot more than this one and they didn't have half the suction power of this vacuum. It works well on carpet and on bare floors and it actually gets the "stuff" that hides in corners and next to the baseboards. I also like all of the attachments that came with this vacuum. For the price, you really won't find a better vacuum!! I have recommended it to several of my friends and they are happy I did. Regardless of whether you live in an apartment or a house, you really can't go wrong with this vacuum cleaner. |
Great, easy & fast to use vac

Good vacuum, easy to use..my eight year old is responsible for vacuuming. Lightweight, yet not rickety. Works well on tile, carpet and and solid oak flooring. Vacuum canister is a bit small when you are vacuuming NEW carpet and shedding dogs but the tornado effect within is quite cool. Internal filter does a good job holding dust. Only complaint is the top of the canister is firmly locked on so putting it on and taking it off can be a bit of a pain. Adjustable handle works excellently for tall and short people!
In the end ..no regrets, great vaccum and would buy it again. |

| We have owned, probably 10 vacuum cleaners over the years. We bought this one because we have a motor home where we spend about half time. It's lightweight, compact and sucks like no other vacuum we ever owned. We planned to keep this in the motor home but it's too good to leave there so we have to switch it back and forth with home. HEPA filters are worth every penny. There is no blowback when you turn this vacuum on. It sucks up everything. |

| My children have one of those huge heavy monsters. It broke in six months. $200 down the drain. This little wonder just keeps going. If you keep up and don't overtax, it is great. Mine is used for light cleaning and just keeps going and going. Great Value. |
Amazing Vacuum

| I never thought I'd be excited about a vacuum but I feel compelled to share that the Eureka Optima is awesome. It's a smaller vacuum that's ideal for a small house (such as mine) or an apartment. I wouldn't recommend this vacuum if you have a lot of floor area to clean. That's because the brush roller for the floor is actually a bit shorter (less wide) than other vacuums I've used so you need to go over an area of the floor a couple of times in different directions to thoroughly vacuum. With that being said, this vacuum is truly amazing and very well designed. First, it came disassembled but I was able to put it together very quickly without using any tools. I figured this was a good sign. The suction is very powerful. The "power claw" brush is excellent. I'm sure my stairs have never been so clean. And, you can turn the floor brush off while using the wand. This is really important so you don't accidentally run over the cord with the floor brush. I love that this version has a hepa filter -very important as we have four cats and two dogs. The vacuum is lightweight and mercifully easy to move around. I was also surprised to discover that this vacuum is a bit quieter than other vacuums I've used. It's certainly not "quiet" but the reduction in the noise was very welcome. The arm retracts so the whole vacuum is very small for storing (again, great for a small house). This one is a groovy dark metallic red/orange, which also make it kinda fun. Okay, so I never thought I'd care to write a review of a vacuum but the designers of this one get a lot of credit for creating a really excellent machine. |

| This is the best "small" size vacuum I have ever owned. It was simple to put together & ready for use in minutes-no tools required! I have a short-haired dog that sheds constantly & the hairs get embedded in the carpet. This vacuum picks then up without any problem. I have an in-wall central vacuum system, but I don't want to get the central vac equipment out for everyday quick cleanups-the Eureka 437AZ rivals that system & my carpets look great in minutes. It works great on hardwood floors as well. This was truly worth the money! |

| I recieved the vac yesterday, and took it out of the box, attached the parts, and started vacuuming dog hair from my indoor-outdoor carpet on my porch. What a great little machine Eureka has invented, and it is so easy to unscrew the cap and remove the dog hair from the tube. The machine is so light-weight, and because of back problems, I don't need a bulky heavy machine to drag around. This is just perfect for my vacuum cleaning needs. Thanks for your great product. You have such speedy delivery also, and that is a big plus in my book. Will be telling my friends and family about your great service. |
